History
Traditionally waist beads have been worn by African women since the 15th century to serve many celebratory purposes. In Africa, a bead is rarely a simple ornament; African waist beads are worn hidden as an invisible yet perceptible signal to a husband/lover or visibly as a sign of status.Â
Today, waistbeads are worn by women of every culture for healing purposes, sensuality, confidence building, decorative adornment, feminine empowerment, weight-loss tracking, and several other reasons.
How to measure your waist
Be sure to measure on bare skin (not over clothing) for a true measurement.
You can measure around your belly button or higher/lower on your waist/hips depending on where you'd like your waist beads to sit.
If you are purchasing waist beads to track weightloss, it's best to measure higher (belly button or higher) allowing room for your waist beads to fall lower on your waist as you lose inches in your waist.
After Purchase Information
If you have purchased elastic waist beads they will be tied when you received them. In order to put them on you will need to have on light clothing and step into them and pull the waist beads up to your waist.
